Lesson 122: Autonomy
Autonomy:
the right or condition of self-government.
"Tatarstan demanded greater autonomy within the Russian Federation"
(in Kantian moral philosophy) the capacity of an agent to act in accordance with objective morality rather than under the influence of desires. —internet quote
Natural society requires members to be autonomous. Without widespread autonomy natural society will tend to devolve into unnatural society under a conflict and violence breeding central authority. The most importnat element of autonomy is to avoid actions that are naturally wrong. After that comes self reliance, personal responsibility, a good work ethic, and it doesn’t hurt to have a sense of spiritual awareness.
Perhaps the worst aspect of living in unnatural society where obedience to a central authority is enforced by violence or the threat of violence is that it tends over time to destroy the individual’s ability to live autonomously.
