Lesson 113: Power Seekers
A power seeker is someone who wants to control other people and have them punished if they disobey. Are you one of them? I am not. The only person I want to have power over is myself and furthermore I do not want anyone else to have power over me.
Are they dangerous? That depends on how much power is at their disposal. As the old saying goes power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. A corollary to this saying is that power attracts the corruptible.
Some power seekers are not just out for themselves. They actually believe they can improve society by passing fiat laws. Of course that never works but they keep trying.. Having good intentions does not protect us from the chaos these laws create.
Kings have power. Dictators have power. Cult leaders have power. Politicians have power. Even bureaucrats have power. Power seekers need people to spread propaganda and henchmen to enforce their dictates. These people are usually well rewarded.
Power seekers are everywhere not only in one country. USA? Russia? China? Ukraine? Iran? Hamas? Israel? Saudi Arabia? Great Britain? France? Germany?
What do power seekers do? First they must convince those who are under their power that obedience is for their own good or for the good of society. Having done that they can proceed to attempting to improve morality and the economy and offering protection to people who fear things like viruses, climate change, income insecurity, medical insecurity, and people in other countries. This last fear often leads to war.
How can normal people protect themselves from power seekers? In most cases they can’t. Once power seekers have power they will use that power to get more power and to prevent anyone from taking away their power. Competition for power can take place peacefully which is called democracy or violently which is called war or revolution. In both cases the most effective power seekers end up on top and then begin to utilize their power.
This is why the natural society promotes peace and prosperity. The chaos creating power seekers in this kind of society are impotent because there is no power to exploit.
Addendum: Criminals are power seekers with relatively little power. “Your money or your life”. Unless you are Jack Benny that is an easy choice. :)
The criminal cannot get what he wants by justly obtaining your property so he does what is naturally wrong because he can. He is defying Nature.
Most power seekers are not technically criminals since they are able to obtain your property by convincing you that it is necessary for your own good. The most dangerous power seekers, supporters, and their henchmen are those who are able to rationalize the wrong they are doing by convincing themselves that it is right.
Note that your property includes your self since everyone is a self owner. Therefore enforced obedience by power seekers is actually a form of stealing.
Power seeking in business is not the same as power seeking in politics. The worst a business power seeker can do to you is fire you. A political power seeker can use his henchmen to put you in jail or worse.
